Soft Sweet Potato Wedges (First Food)
The quintessential BLW first food: soft-roasted wedges that are easy to grip, naturally sweet, and packed with beta-carotene.

Ingredients
- 1 large sweet potato
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Optional: pinch of mild cinnamon or smoked paprika
Method
- Heat the oven to 200°C / 400°F.
- Cut the sweet potato into wedges roughly the size of two adult fingers, skin on or off.
- Toss with olive oil and roast 25–30 minutes, turning once, until very soft inside.
- Test: a wedge should squish easily between your finger and thumb. Cool before serving.
How to serve it by stage

Whole finger-sized wedges for palmar grip — babies gnaw the top half.
9+ months
Cut wedges into small cubes for pincer-grip practice.
12+ months
Crispier wedges with a bean or yogurt dip.
Allergen & safety noteContains no top-9 allergens, which makes it a perfect first food and a safe base while you introduce allergens separately. Always supervise eating, serve baby upright in a high chair, and check food passes the squish test for younger babies.
