Chicken & Courgette Fritters

Juicy, veg-packed fritters that sneak in protein and moisture — soft enough for gums, sturdy enough for the high-chair grip test.

Chicken and courgette fritters
6+ months ⏱ 25 min Allergens: Egg, gluten (flour)

Ingredients

  • 150g cooked chicken, finely shredded or minced
  • 1 medium courgette (zucchini), grated and squeezed very dry
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 tbsp grated parmesan (optional)
  • Olive oil, for frying

Method

  1. Squeeze the grated courgette in a clean tea towel until no more liquid comes out — this is the crisp-fritter secret.
  2. Mix courgette, chicken, egg, flour and parmesan into a thick batter.
  3. Fry heaped tablespoons in olive oil over medium heat, flattening slightly, 2–3 minutes per side until golden.
  4. Drain on kitchen paper and cool before serving.

How to serve it by stage

6+ months

Serve as finger-length strips; the soft interior mashes easily against gums.

9+ months

Quarter the fritters into chunky pieces for pincer practice.

12+ months

Whole fritters with a yogurt-herb dip — great for daycare lunchboxes too.

Allergen & safety noteContains egg and wheat. Parmesan adds salt — skip it for younger babies or lower-sodium diets. Always supervise eating, serve baby upright in a high chair, and check food passes the squish test for younger babies.
