Hidden-Veg Tomato Pasta Sauce
A batch-cook hero: five vegetables blended into a smooth tomato sauce that survives the fussiest toddler phases. Freeze it in cubes.

Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 carrot, grated
- 1 courgette, grated
- 1 red pepper, chopped
- 400g tin chopped tomatoes
- 50g red lentils, rinsed
- 200ml low-salt stock
- 1 tsp dried oregano
Method
- Soften the onion in olive oil, then add all the vegetables and cook 5 minutes.
- Add tomatoes, lentils, stock and oregano; simmer 20 minutes until the lentils are soft.
- Blend until completely smooth. Stir through pasta, spread on toast, or use as a dip.
- Freeze extra in ice-cube trays for instant future dinners.
How to serve it by stage
6+ months
Stir into very soft large pasta shapes, or serve as a warm dip for veg sticks.
9+ months
Coat smaller pasta shapes; expect gloriously messy self-feeding.
12+ months
Standard toddler pasta night; add grated cheese or torn mozzarella on top.
Allergen & safety noteNo added salt needed — the lentils and slow-cooked veg carry the flavour. One batch makes ~10 baby portions. Always supervise eating, serve baby upright in a high chair, and check food passes the squish test for younger babies.
