Avocado Toast Fingers for Baby

The fastest first breakfast there is: healthy fats from avocado on lightly toasted fingers that don't gum into a paste.

Avocado toast fingers for baby
6+ months ⏱ 5 min Allergens: Gluten (bread); sesame if topped

Ingredients

  • 1/2 ripe avocado
  • 1 slice wholemeal bread
  • Squeeze of lemon
  • Optional: a dusting of ground hemp or toasted sesame seeds

Method

  1. Toast the bread lightly — soft bread balls up; light toasting keeps structure.
  2. Mash the avocado with lemon and spread thickly.
  3. Cut into finger-width strips and serve.

How to serve it by stage

6+ months

Wide strips with a thick mash layer — easy palmar grip, soft to gum.

9+ months

Small squares for pincer pickup; try a thin sesame dusting to introduce that allergen.

12+ months

Whole halved toast; let them practise biting pieces off.

Allergen & safety noteIf topping with sesame, remember it's a priority allergen — introduce it deliberately and on its own the first time. Always supervise eating, serve baby upright in a high chair, and check food passes the squish test for younger babies.
